Chester Life
Thinking of moving to Chester?
As a (potential) future Cestrian, it’s important you know the what, which and why of this ancient, vibrant city.
Chester was founded almost two thousand years ago, as a Roman fort on the border between England and Wales. Now, it’s a hotspot with tourists for its rich history, shopping and closeness to other highlights of North England and Wales.
So, whether you’re grabbing a bite to eat in the Market, enjoying a picnic in Grosvenor Park, or indulging in some culture at the Storyhouse, a day in Chester is always sure to be a place that inspires.
Cheap eats with the housemates or pick-me-ups on the walk home from the pub, we are spoilt for choice in Chester!
Our city houses the official BEST pizza in the UK outside of London, and five Michelin star-rated restaurants in the city centre alone. And we all know that Northern chippies are second to none!
Chester may seem like a surprising place to hit the town if you’ve never visited, but thanks to our vibrant student and resident community, you will find a range of venues to meet your every need.
Seek out cosy pubs with a roaring fire, raucous karaoke haunts and stylish wine bars, alongside spots to enjoy music, comedy, quizzes and more. And if you’ve not quite finished the night at last orders, there are plenty of places where you can dance into the early hours.
No two days out in Chester need be the same! Grosvenor Park and the River Dee in the city centre provide a beautiful setting for sunny days, and a few miles down the road, Cheshire Oaks is a shopper’s dream.
Enjoy a wide range of cuisines, a cinema trip, bowling, and even a trampoline experience if the mood takes you!
Chester is made even more special by its proximity to other cities in the area. Liverpool and Manchester are close enough to enjoy a night out without the cost of a hotel room, and North Wales in all its natural glory is on the doorstep.
Chester station is well-equipped with direct routes to most major centres in the country, making it all the easier to explore the North West. You’ll be spoilt for choice!
We are incredibly lucky to have some incredible live theatre venues on our doorstep. The Storyhouse is the jewel in Chester's cultural crown, so take a look at the theatres on our doorstep, providing our students access to music, drama, dance and so much more.
Choosing a place to settle in while you study is a big decision, and with the Hammond being on the outskirts of the city centre you get good transport links, a wide range of accommodation options, opportunities for part-time jobs, a varied social calendar, and space to retreat into nature.
